Lactation Now in Progress |
Summer 2012:
Penny and her two
daughters, River and Lady, look amazingly alike. I have to do a
double take at times to be sure of who I'm looking at. Penny is
doing great this year, milking well, and looking great. She didn't
give us another daughter this year, so we'll try again next year.
Summer 2011:
Penny, the former House
Goat, has matured into a big, beautiful, productive doe. She
scored 91 on Linear Appraisal and is one of our top milkers. We
like Penny so much that we have two of her daughters in our herd plus
plan to keep another one next year.
Summer 2010:
Penny managed to get
through this year without any problems - so far. Thankfully, her
eye injury from last year is long healed. Penny did pull a stunt
and have triplet bucklings this year. Oh well, that's how it goes
sometimes. Penny is milking well and looking great.
Penny now has a son that has qualified for ADGA's
Sire Development Program!
Summer 2009:
We still don't know
what Penny got into, but one morning she showed up with her right eye
clamped shut. She was pouring tears down her face. It was
almost a month before she could open her eye fully. It looks like
she took a big hit or poke to that eye and we can still see a scar on
her iris. Happily, it is almost healed now. It was a big
scare for us - and I'm sure she wasn't too happy about it either!
Penny is doing well on the milk stand and even gave us a beautiful
daughter this year.
July 2008 update:
As we said last
year - it's fascinating watching the kids grow into their potential.
What we didn't expect was for Penny's potential to be so great!
She is a productive milker with a great work ethic AND she is beautiful,
too. Our little "house goat" is now looking regal and stylish.
She easily earned her milking star last year and was also awarded her
Superior Genetics title. This year she scored as Excellent on her
linear appraisal.
July 2007 update:
Watching kids turn into
milkers is always fascinating. Scrawny little kids become active big
kids, then develop a chubby look once they are bred and their pregnancies
progress. Then at kidding, they lose all that extra weight (the kids) and
magically turn into beautiful milkers. Chubby little Penny delighted us
by turning into a long lovely girl. She still has a bit of baby fat to
lose, but the way she is milking it won’t take long. She loves to come in
to be milked and does a great job. She will easily earn her milking star
this year.
Fall 2005 update:
News Flash! BMR’s Latest Addition
Flash gave birth to a 6.4 pound adorable
little brown doeling with white splashes and tan moon spots on September 6th. Penny had a rocky start to
life. Born submerged in a great flood of birthing fluid she had to
be helped to breath her first breaths. She ended up living in the house for a couple weeks
and is now as at home in the leather recliner as she is out browsing with
the herd. Because of being spoiled and pampered so much, one knowledgeable
goat breeder has warned us that Penny will never be a “true goat”.
Penny is full of energy, very self-assured, and sweet as they come.
