July 2007 update:

Zippy has grown into a powerful, good looking buck.  With bucks, when you want to see what kind of udder they will give their daughters, you look at the buck’s dam.  Well, Zippy’s dam, Sassafras, was appraised with an Excellent udder.  The appraiser commented several times that she had a perfect rear udder and even stopped his appraisal to gather all the people around to see it.  We are still waiting to see what Zippy’s daughter’s udders really will look like – but if they are anything like Sassy’s, they’ll be winners!

July 2006 update:

What a different a year makes!  Our cuddly little spotted boy from last year is now a big, stinky, hormone driven maniac!  Well, maybe it’s not that drastic, but the little fella has sure grown up.  He’s a good looking guy, and we are excited about using him more heavily this year.  He seems excited about that, too!

More background on Zippy (2005)

This little guy earned his name when he was about 3 weeks old.  The goats, people, and dogs were taking an evening stroll when our Anatolian LGD , Kody, decided that the horses were getting a little too close to the goats.   150# Kody ran towards the horses to move them away - and the little spotted 15# buckling ran with him.   He not only kept up with the big dog, but passed him and succeeded in moving the horses on.  This guy has speed - and spirit!  Besides being a dare-devil speed demon, Zippy is quite friendly and sweet - a real charmer.  We are very excited about this boy and look forward to watching him run, play, and grow up to be a BMR herd sire.
