July 2007 update:

This year was our first ever Linear Appraisal.   We had many people here to help get the goats ready, take pictures, lead the goats, and to milk them out after the appraiser was finished with them.  There was much activity going on as everyone did their jobs.  But it all came screeching to a stop when Sassy moved into the arena.   The appraiser had everyone stop what they were doing and gather around Sassy.   He wanted to point out what a “perfect rear udder” looked like – and Sassy had just that.  We are thrilled with his rating of “Excellent” for her udder and for her other great traits, and we are very happy to have her son, Zippy, working here as a herd sire.

July 2006 update:

What can we say…we just LOVE this girl.  She won the prestigious “BMR Best First Freshener” award for 2005 and she is maintaining her promising development as a milker.  Her udder is high, well attached, capacious, and silky soft, milking down easily without any excess tissue.  She is also friendly, sweet, and beautiful.

2005 update:

Sassy, always a favorite as a kid, is continuing to delight and impress us.  She freshened this summer with two wonderfully colorful kids, one of which we have retained to be a BMR herd sire.  In the milking parlor Sassy is a dream.  She has a marvelous udder with great attachments and is milking up to 10# a day of high quality milk.  While it's still a little early in the year to bet on the BMR Best First Freshener of 2005 - it will be quite a surprise if this little girl doesn't win that coveted prize.

More background on Sassy:

Sassy came to the ranch from WA State.  She and her twin sister, Sage, made the trip in style – in their mom’s womb.  David’s trip to the great NorthWest to bring home 5 new dairy goats had resulted in actually getting 7 girls!!  We couldn’t be more delighted.  Sassy is long, level, and wide – a real sturdy girl.  She really looks like she’ll live up to her excellent milking heritage and make her breeder (and us!) proud.  She is sociable, goofy, and amazingly graceful when jumping all over the three-foot high propane tank – a real kid favorite!
